THE GATHERED BED VALANCE

The gathered or ruffled Bed Valance is synonymous with the English country home and is one of the most inviting things you can see in a bedroom. It signals comfort, femininity and abundance.

This gathered style dates back centuries, to a time when the bed was considered the most important and luxurious piece in the home. Traditionally fashioned from heavy, starched fabrics gathered valances could appear quite formal. By contrast, ours being made from our medium-weight linen means the achieved look is more relaxed, calm yet still decorative. 

The Ruffle is has a lovely gentle fullness and is our most frivolous bed valance yet; the perfect suitor for a more layered home.  

Our linen is woven in Lithuania at the oldest and largest linen mill in the Baltics. It then makes its way to County Durham, where our talented seamstresses cut, sew and finish each piece by hand.

THE ANATOMY OF A BED VALANCE

Each of our Gathered Bed Valances is made using approximately 5.5–10 metres of European linen, depending on the size. Everything is cut by hand before the cotton lining is prepared, the piping is covered in our "Sugar" linen, and each piece is carefully sewn together to create a beautiful finish.
